The Asian Forum for Rural Research, Planning  and Development (AF RRPD) is an international platform for meeting, networking and collaboration among experts, practitioners, and academicians in the field of rural research, planning, and development to discuss, exchange of experiences – research findings and ideas, plan and organize activities for mutual benefit. It is based on volunteerism on the same interest on rural topic research, and development planning practices.

The AF RRPD was a transformation from Rural Research and Planning Group (RRPG) that  was founded in 2010. In the first time RRPG was initiated in 2009 by Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Ngah from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Prof. Dr. David Preston, Oxford University, United Kingdom, Dr Imam Buchori and Holi Bina Wijaya from Diponegoro University, Indonesia in a meeting at UTM Johor, Malaysia.

In the initial time, the Rural Research And Planning Group – RRPG was established based on volunteerism on the same interest on rural topics research, and development planning practices. Regarding the global era where the activities are borderless, where the communication and interactions are very easy, then a stronger and wider networking becomes an important asset to improve our quality of live in a sustainable way.

In July 6, 2018, the participants of The 9th RRPG International Conference declared The Bali Declaration to establish the Asian Forum for Rural Research, Planning, and Development (AF RRPD). The AF RRPD is intended to strengthening the previous RRPG with wider network to cover the relevant rural components for sustainable development.

The Bali Declaration was signed by 17 participants as representatives of 13 universities, governments, professional associations from 6 Asian countries. The AF RRPD has goal to promote 5 main activities agenda i.e. (1) Joint cooperation to develop education for rural sustainable development; (2) Research, publication, and development collaboration; (3) Exchange program for rural resources empowerment; (4) Sharing knowledge and experience in rural policy and planning; and (5) Develop innovative approach and entrepreneurship for rural and regional promotion. The Declaration becomes a platform of Rural Research Planning Group  – RRPG  to continue the network as Asian Forum for Rural Research, Planning and Development (AF RRPD). With the new platform, the AF RRPD network becomes more wider and relevant to face the current rural change and challenge toward the sustainable development.

The current network covers the  participants from the annual Conference and meetings. The members are from universities, NGO, international development agencies, government bodies, and other relevant agencies. Currently, the RRPG members network are  from countries i.e.  Malaysia, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Japan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Thailand, Germany, India, Singapore, South Korea. 

New participants of institutions and individuals are welcome to participate in the network.
